Families of Borno Abducted Pupils Urge Government Action

Families of abducted schoolchildren in Borno State have urgently appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babagana Zulum to enhance efforts for the release of their loved ones, who have been in captivity for 100 days. On May 15, 2026, 42 pupils and students from Mussa Primary and Junior Day Secondary School in Askira-Uba were abducted, followed by the kidnapping of 36 students from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, on June 29 during their NECO examinations.

The families also called for the rescue of 38 individuals abducted along Buratai Road to Maiduguri and others taken from the Chibok route. Mr. Malla Gadzama, Secretary of the Hawul/Askira-Uba Elders Forum, described the situation as one of “prolonged pain, fear and uncertainty.” The families urged the government to replicate successful rescue strategies used in Oyo State and demanded regular communication regarding rescue efforts.

They emphasized that the normalization of such abductions must not be tolerated, insisting on equal protection and urgency for the victims in Borno.
