LASEMA Reports 173 Deaths in Lagos Emergencies in 2025

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that 173 people lost their lives in emergencies across Lagos in 2025, with a total of 1,156 incidents recorded. The agency reported a decrease in emergencies compared to the previous year, with 394 road crashes, 249 tanker truck-related incidents, and 204 fire outbreaks.

Monthly data showed February had the highest emergencies at 122 cases. Alimosho Local Government recorded the most emergencies at 180 cases, followed by Eti-Osa and Ikeja.

LASEMA's pre-hospital care unit rescued and resuscitated 1,924 victims, comprising 906 adult males, 1,003 adult females, 13 boys, and two girls. Of the 173 deaths, 139 were adult males, 32 adult females, two boys, and no girls.

LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, affirmed the agency's commitment to disaster mitigation and response. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pledged support to strengthen the agency's capacity for disaster management.

The agency aims to enhance preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in Lagos State.
