LASTMA Rescues 1,075 Crash Victims, Impounds 17,169 Vehicles

In 2025, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) announced significant progress in road safety operations, reporting the rescue of no fewer than 1,075 injured crash victims through coordinated emergency interventions across major traffic corridors. Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of Public Affairs at LASTMA, highlighted that these rescue operations were conducted using a rapid incident response mechanism, which strengthened inter-agency collaboration and ensured timely medical assistance for accident victims.

The agency also intensified its enforcement campaign, resulting in the impounding of 17,169 vehicles for various traffic violations, including reckless driving, overload, and mechanical faults. The breakdown indicated that 5,581 private vehicles and 10,825 commercial vehicles were apprehended.

Additionally, 760 motorists were arrested for offenses linked to severe road crashes, which aimed to avoid fatalities. Adebayo noted that the statistics reflect a deliberate shift toward proactive traffic governance driven by modern technology and intelligence-led enforcement strategies.
