Lagos Records 173 Emergency Incidents in Two Months

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported 173 emergency incidents during January and February 2026, as disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Okosanyintolu.

Of these, 93 incidents occurred in January and 80 in February. Road traffic accidents were the most prevalent, with 56 cases recorded, including 53 involving various vehicle crashes and three cases of vehicles catching fire.

Additionally, there were 35 incidents involving tanker trucks, comprising 27 accidents, four breakdowns, and two fire outbreaks. Other emergencies included 55 incidents categorized as 47 fire outbreaks, two building collapses, and four miscellaneous cases.

The agency also noted three suicide attempts and addressed a suspicious alert regarding a plane crash at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Medical-related emergencies accounted for 26 cases.

The highest number of incidents was reported in Ikeja (31 cases), followed by Kosofe (18) and Alimosho (15). LASEMA emphasized its commitment to strengthening disaster response capabilities and promoting safety awareness throughout Lagos State.
