ADC Blames Tinubu for Hunger Crisis Affecting 17 Million

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic and security policies, asserting they have contributed to a humanitarian crisis in Nigeria. A recent report from the World Food Programme (WFP) indicates that 17 million Nigerians are experiencing acute hunger, particularly in nine conflict-affected states in northern Nigeria.

The ADC's statement, issued by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, highlighted that the number of people facing acute hunger has increased by nearly two million from previous projections. Borno State alone accounts for three million affected individuals, with a combined figure of 6.2 million for Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.

The ADC attributed the worsening food crisis to insecurity, attacks on farming communities, and mass displacement, which limit humanitarian access. They criticized the government's response as inadequate and called for comprehensive strategies to address food security and prioritize national security.

The ADC proposed various interventions, including increased investment in smallholder farmers and rehabilitation of abandoned dams to enhance agricultural productivity.
