Vehicle Crash During Prayers in Yobe Kills Two, Injures 32

On Friday, a vehicle crashed into worshippers at Jibwi Juma Mosque in Damagum, Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 32 others. The incident occurred during Juma prayers, prompting immediate civil unrest as youths set the vehicle ablaze.

Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Bard Gubana expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and injured victims, and the Yobe State Government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has donated N2 million to support these families.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the commercial passenger vehicle was traveling at excessive speed when it lost control. Gubana called for community leaders and Islamic scholars to educate youths about the dangers of praying on highways, emphasizing that roads should be reserved for vehicular movement.

The government is considering implementing strategic road safety measures along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway to prevent future incidents. Emir of Fune, Alhaji Saleh Idriss Ibn Usman, expressed gratitude for the government's support and appealed for the construction of speed control measures in the area.
