Two Policemen Killed in Benue Ambush While Escorting DPO

On Monday at approximately 6pm, two newly deployed policemen were killed in an ambush in Benue State while escorting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ayilamo, who was returning from Makurdi. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as it brings the total number of policemen killed in Ayilamo to six within three days, following an earlier attack on Friday that resulted in the deaths of four Mobile Police officers and seven civilians.

The identities of the slain officers were not disclosed at the time of the report. The attack occurred along the route to Ayilamo, where the DPO was returning after his trip.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi, stating that the DPO's entourage was ambushed and that two policemen lost their lives. Local residents indicated that the attackers were likely armed invaders operating from nearby forests and abandoned villages, expressing concerns over the movement of armed men in the area and calling for increased security measures.
