Four Policemen, Seven Civilians Killed in Benue Attack

The Benue State Police Command confirmed that four mobile policemen and seven civilians were killed during an attack by suspected armed bandits on Ayilamo, Tombo council ward, Logo Local Government Area, on Thursday. The attack occurred when a large number of armed bandits invaded the community.

According to the police spokesperson, Peter Aondongu, police operatives, including Police Mobile Force units and tactical teams, engaged the attackers in a seven-hour operation, successfully repelling them and forcing their retreat into nearby forests. Tragically, four police officers lost their lives in the defense of the community, with their bodies recovered during subsequent search and rescue operations.

The corpses of the seven civilians were also recovered and taken to a mortuary. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu praised the courage and resilience of the operatives and paid tribute to the fallen officers.

Additional tactical teams have been deployed to reinforce security in the area, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
