CAS Reviews Senegal's Appeal Against Morocco's AFCON Title

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is currently reviewing Senegal's appeal against Morocco concerning the title of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Senegal lost the final match on January 18, 2025, with a score of 1-0 to Morocco.

The match was marred by controversy, particularly during stoppage time when a penalty was awarded to Morocco, prompting Senegalese players to walk off the pitch in protest, although they later returned to complete the game. Following the match, the Moroccan Football Federation filed a complaint, resulting in a ruling that Senegal must forfeit the fixture, thereby handing the title to Morocco.

Matthieu Reeb, the CAS director general, acknowledged the urgency of the case but indicated that there is no fixed timeline for a resolution. Raymond Hack, the former head of the CAF disciplinary panel, warned that the process could extend over several months, leaving the title dispute unresolved in the interim.
