CAF Awards Morocco 2025 AFCON Title After Senegal Forfeits

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declared Morocco the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a ruling that Senegal forfeited the final match. This decision was announced on Tuesday after the CAF appeal board overturned an earlier disciplinary ruling.

The board found that Senegal breached competition regulations, leading to the declaration of a 3-0 victory for Morocco. The appeal was based on Article 84 of the CAF regulations, which was upheld after addressing serious disciplinary matters involving Moroccan player Ismaël Saïbari.

The board confirmed that Senegal's conduct violated Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF disciplinary code. Additionally, the board amended sanctions against Saïbari and reduced fines related to incidents during the match.

The final match, which took place in Rabat, was marred by controversy, including protests from Senegal's players and technical crew regarding referee decisions.
