ASUU Announces Indefinite Strike in Edo, Ondo, Delta States

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a notice for an indefinite strike affecting seven state-owned universities in Edo, Ondo, and Delta states. This decision, communicated by Prof.

Mondai Lewi Igbafen, the zonal coordinator of ASUU Benin Zone, stems from the federal government's failure to implement the 2025 agreement, which was unveiled on January 14, 2026. Igbafen expressed concern that none of the state universities in the zone have adhered to the agreement since its announcement six months ago.

He emphasized that the union's patience has been exhausted, as members have awaited concrete actions regarding the financial support necessary for implementing the agreement. The union demands that the next salary payment for its members reflect the adjustments stipulated in the agreement, with arrears accruing from January 2026 to be paid without further delay.
