Nigerian Stars Fail to Win at 2026 BET Awards

At the 2026 BET Awards held on Sunday at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Tems received nominations but did not win any awards. Teyana Taylor and the hip-hop duo Clipse were the standout winners of the night.

Tems, who had three nominations, lost the Best Female R&B Pop Artist award to Kehlani. Wizkid was nominated for Best Group but lost to Clipse, while Burna Boy's collaboration with Gunna was beaten in the Best Collaboration category by Clipse's collaboration with Kendrick Lamar.

South African singer Tyla also failed to win despite her nominations. In the film category, Nigerian-born actress Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo lost the Best Actress award, while British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris was beaten for Best Actor by Michael B.

Jordan. Ayra Starr had previously won Best International Act at the 2025 BET Awards.

Teyana Taylor won multiple awards, including Best Actress and Video Director of the Year.
