ADC Calls for Women's Empowerment on International Women's Day

On the occasion of the 2026 International Women’s Day, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged Nigerian women to play a crucial role in shaping the nation's future. In a statement made available in Abuja on Sunday, signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party highlighted that Nigerian women carry a disproportionate share of the nation's social and economic responsibilities while remaining significantly underrepresented in leadership positions.

The ADC emphasized that empowering women is essential for strengthening Nigeria's democracy. The party's constitution explicitly reserves 40 percent of party positions for women, reflecting its commitment to women's inclusion in political activities.

The statement celebrated the contributions of millions of Nigerian women in various sectors, including education and healthcare, and reiterated that the nation cannot reach its full potential when half of its population remains underrepresented. The ADC called for a renewed commitment from leaders to invest in women's empowerment, asserting that when women rise, the entire nation rises.
