LAJA Calls for Support Systems for Female Journalists

In anticipation of International Women’s Day 2026, the League of Anambra Journalists (LAJA) has called for stronger support systems for female journalists. The organization, represented by President Ikenna Okonkwo and Secretary Princess Ekwi Ajid, highlighted the critical role women play in shaping public discourse despite facing workplace discrimination and safety concerns.

LAJA emphasized the importance of empowering female journalists through improved welfare, safety, and professional growth opportunities. The group urged media organizations and policymakers to prioritize policies that promote equal opportunities and mentorship, as well as to ensure fair representation in newsroom leadership.

They noted that investing in the capacity of female journalists would enhance their ability to report effectively and contribute meaningfully to national development. LAJA also encouraged young women to aspire to join the journalism profession, reaffirming its commitment to uplifting and empowering female journalists within the organization.
