SWAN Celebrates Female Sports Journalists on Women's Day

On the occasion of the 2026 International Women’s Day, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) celebrated female sports journalists, highlighting their importance as pillars of society. SWAN President Isaiah Benjamin, along with Secretary General Ikenna Okonkwo, emphasized the theme of this year's celebration and assured that the association would continue to support the professional development of women in sports journalism.

The current SWAN leadership is dedicated to ensuring that female sports journalists are actively involved and supported in their careers. Benjamin reflected on the necessity of solidarity among women, stating that when one woman rises, she opens doors for others.

He called for stakeholders to remove barriers that limit the advancement of Nigerian women in their chosen careers and urged for prioritization of support for women in sports journalism. SWAN aims to intensify efforts to organize training and increase participation of women in various levels of sports journalism.
