Falconets Defeat Malawi 2-0 in U20 World Cup Qualifier

In the first leg of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup qualifier, Nigeria's Falconets defeated Malawi 2-0 on Saturday, showcasing their dominance throughout the match. The Falconets, coached by Mose Adukwu, struggled initially to convert their chances due to the impressive performance of Malawi's goalkeeper, Emili Nkhwazi.

However, the game changed in the second half when Maureen Kenneth scored an own goal in the 47th minute, giving Nigeria the lead. Ten minutes later, Faridat Abdulwahab scored from an assist by Ifeanyi, doubling Nigeria's advantage.

The Falconets maintained their two-goal cushion despite Malawi's late attempts to rally. The second leg is scheduled for May 9, 2026, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, with kickoff at 3 PM Malawi time (2 PM Nigeria time).

A financial incentive of 1 million naira has been promised to the Falconets by the president of Remo Stars FC, Kunle Sonam, for their performance.
