WAEC Official Alleges Failures Behind Poor WASSCE Results

Olanrewaju Fadehan, the Head of Examinations at WAEC, publicly alleged that technical glitches and administrative failures during the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) adversely affected candidates' scores. He stated that those who took the computer-based version of the exam were particularly impacted, especially in Mathematics, English, and Igbo.

Fadehan noted that the results were expected between August 3 and 5, 2026, but last-minute changes disrupted the process. He expressed concern over the poor performance of South-East candidates in Igbo, which he found difficult to explain.

Additionally, he claimed that some candidates lacked proper calculators during the exam, contributing to poor performance in Mathematics. Fadehan formally raised these issues with WAEC's Board, the Committee on Basic Education and Examining Bodies, and the Minister of Education, but alleged that instead of addressing his complaints, he was placed on interdiction.

He urged President Bola Ahmed to investigate these systemic failures and raised concerns about financial impropriety within WAEC's management.
