WAEC Reports 61.54% Pass Rate in 2026 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced the results for the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE), indicating that 1,200,514 candidates, or 61.54%, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents a 1.42 percentage-point decline from the 2025 results.

Out of 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination, 1,834,695 results were fully processed and released, while 116,031 results are still being processed. Additionally, 167,486 results, representing 8.59% of candidates, were withheld due to alleged examination malpractice, a decrease from 9.7% in 2025.

Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, Head of the Nigeria National Office, attributed the reduction in malpractice cases to enhanced anti-malpractice measures, including the expansion of computer-based examinations.

He noted that WAEC has become a leader in conducting achievement tests using computer-based formats, allowing candidates to choose between this and traditional methods. Challenges such as logistics and fraudulent activities were also acknowledged.
