WAEC Withholds 167,486 WASSCE Results Over Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, accounting for 8.59% of those who sat for the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, due to alleged examination malpractice. This figure reflects a slight improvement from the 9.7% malpractice rate recorded in 2025.

The announcement was made by Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, during the official release of the examination results in Lagos. He cited persistent issues such as the use of mobile phones in examination halls and organized cheating as major challenges.

Some supervisors and invigilators caught aiding candidates will face sanctions. A total of 1,959,668 candidates registered for the examination, with 1,950,726 actually sitting for it.

Of these, 1,200,514 candidates (61.54%) obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, although this represents a decline from the previous year.
