Following the 2026 FIFA World Cup match where France defeated Paraguay, FIFA and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed their support for Kylian Mbappé after Paraguayan senator Celest Amarilla made a racist comment about him. Macron denounced Amarilla's remarks, emphasizing the importance of dignity, respect, and fraternity in sports.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also condemned the senator's comments, stating that football must unite against racism. The incident occurred after Mbappé scored a decisive penalty that sent France to the quarter-finals.

A video surfaced showing Mbappé attempting to shake hands with Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill, who did not reciprocate. Amarilla's derogatory comments included references to Mbappé's heritage, calling him a "colonized Cameroonian" and making offensive comparisons.

In response, Mbappé labeled Amarilla's remarks as despicable and unworthy of her position, asserting that such racism should not be tolerated in the world.
