Despite DR Congo defeating Nigeria in the African playoff, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) seeks to replace DR Congo in the intercontinental playoff if FIFA rules in their favor. Dr.

Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of the NFF, expressed confidence in Nigeria's strong case. Nigeria's path to the playoffs was previously impacted by FIFA sanctions against South Africa, leading to a deduction of points.
