FIFA Sanctions Nigeria and DR Congo for World Cup Violations

FIFA has announced sanctions against the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association (CFA) due to violations during the 2026 World Cup playoff match held in November 2025. The NFF was penalized for a breach related to match security, specifically involving spectators throwing objects, and has been fined 1,000 Swiss francs.

In contrast, the CFA received a heavier sanction for fans using a laser pointer and similar electronic devices during the match, which contravened Article 17(2)(d) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, resulting in a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs. These actions reflect FIFA's commitment to maintaining order and safety during international matches.
