ActionAid Nigeria Raises Alarm on Governors' Campaign Funds

ActionAid Nigeria, represented by its Country Director Dr. Andrew Mamedu, issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, expressing serious concerns about the political campaign activities being conducted by serving governors in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The organization highlighted reports suggesting that governors are mobilizing substantial funds for political campaigns, raising alarm over the potential diversion of public resources for political purposes. Dr.

Mamedu emphasized the unacceptable nature of using state resources as a political war chest, stating that Nigerians deserve to know whether these funds are legitimate or if public resources are being misappropriated. ActionAid Nigeria called for immediate public explanations from the governors involved and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch independent investigations into these allegations.

The organization stressed the need for transparency in the use of public funds, especially during a time when Nigeria is facing significant economic challenges.
