ActionAid Nigeria Demands Probe into State Fund Misuse

ActionAid Nigeria has issued a press statement from Abuja demanding an investigation into allegations that certain governors are misusing state resources to finance political campaigns for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Dr.

Andrew Mamedu, representing ActionAid Nigeria, described the allegations as disturbing, particularly given the country's current economic hardships, rising debt, and deteriorating public services. The organization raised questions about the legitimacy of the funds being mobilized for political activities and stressed that public office holders should not divert taxpayer funds for partisan purposes.

ActionAid Nigeria has called for an independent investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into these allegations. If found guilty of misusing state resources for political campaigns, governors could face impeachment, prosecution, and disqualification from holding public office in the future.

The organization also urged Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, to remain vigilant against the misuse of public resources for political activities.
