ADC Evaluates Options Amid INEC Crisis Ahead of Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently evaluating its options in light of a crisis with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has announced it will no longer accept correspondence from the party pending a determination from the Federal High Court. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's national publicity secretary, indicated that this situation poses a direct threat to the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Electoral Act 2026 mandates a 21-day notice period for submissions, complicating the party's ability to hold primaries. Internal consultations among party leaders are ongoing, with various strategies being considered, including a potential boycott of the elections.

Abdullahi emphasized the need for transparency and accountability from INEC, criticizing the commission's actions as politically motivated. The ADC's leadership, including former national chairman Dr. Ralph Nwosu, is actively discussing the implications of INEC's stance and the party's future electoral strategy.
