Katsina Reps Tafoki and Lawal Defect to PDP from APC

The political landscape in Katsina State is shifting as two serving members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki, representing Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency, and Hon.

Sani Lawal, representing Baur/Zango Federal Constituency, have officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This decision follows their rejection of the outcomes from a recent consensus arrangement within the APC regarding candidate selection for the 2027 elections.

Tafoki has expressed dissatisfaction with the APC's handling of the consensus process, particularly regarding the replacement of Hamza Suleiman, a former commissioner for the environment. Additionally, political observers believe that the failure to secure APC tickets through direct primaries has deepened internal divisions within the party, necessitating urgent reconciliation efforts to address the grievances of aggrieved members.
