PDP Gains Momentum in Katsina Ahead of 2027 Elections

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State is actively working to enhance its political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections by attracting members from rival parties, specifically the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Despite Katsina historically being an APC stronghold, recent political movements indicate a potential shift in favor of the PDP.

The party has been focusing on grassroots mobilization, capitalizing on dissatisfaction within the APC and NNPP. Notably, Nura Khalid, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate for NNPP, has defected to the PDP along with thousands of supporters, aiming to challenge the APC's incumbent senator, Muntari Danduts, in the Funtua senatorial district for the 2027 elections.

Political analysts suggest that the decline of former President Muhammadu Buhari's influence and rising economic hardships are contributing to this realignment. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who won the 2023 elections on the APC platform, faces challenges in securing a second term amid these dynamics.
