APC Postpones Presidential Primary to May 23, 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially postponed its presidential primary to May 23, 2026, and the governorship primary to May 21, 2026, from the original dates of May 15 and May 16, respectively. This decision was disclosed by Duro Meseko, the APC Deputy National Public Secretary, during a press briefing following the party's 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held in Abuja.

The adjustment is intended to align the party's activities with the timeline for the 2027 general elections and to allow for internal negotiations among the various factions within the party. The NWC adopted a direct consensus mode for selecting candidates, which allows party members to vote for a single candidate, aiming to reduce friction and streamline the nomination process.

However, the postponement raises questions about the party's unity and the potential for internal conflicts as the election date approaches. The APC's ability to manage this transition smoothly will be critical as it prepares for the upcoming electoral challenges.
