APC Postpones 2026 Primaries to Align with 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially shifted the dates for its presidential and governorship primaries, now scheduled for May 23 and May 21, 2026, respectively. This adjustment comes from earlier planned dates of May 15 and May 16, 2026.

The announcement was made by Duro Meseko, the APC Deputy National Public Secretary, following the party's 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. The decision to revise the timetable aligns with the party's strategy for the 2027 general elections.

During the meeting, the NWC adopted a direct consensus mode for selecting candidates for the elections, as provided by the Electoral Act, allowing members the liberty to choose at the state level.
