Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Screened for Senate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) screened Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the Senate seat representing Kwara Central in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The screening occurred in Abuja on May 9 and 10, 2023, as part of the party's internal process aimed at verifying the eligibility of aspirants and ensuring candidates can seek office free from legal electoral encumbrances.

Senior aide to the governor, Bashira Kolawole, confirmed the development in an exclusive interview with Punch Online in Ilorin on Tuesday. While she declined to provide further details about the outcome of the screening exercise, it is expected that Abdulrazaq will complete his two-term office by May 29, 2027.

He is currently the sole aspirant for the APC's Kwara Central Senate ticket, indicating his intent to remain active in the state's political structure. Additionally, incumbent Senator representing Kwara Central, Salihu Mustapha, has obtained the APC governorship nomination form, setting the stage for a highly competitive race within the state chapter of the party.
