Secondus Warns Against Court Ruling Threatening Democracy

Prince Uche Secondus, the former National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed serious concerns regarding a recent Federal High Court judgment that ordered the deregistration of political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He warned that this action could pave the way for the coronation of Bola Tinubu in 2027 rather than a fair election.

Secondus described the judgment as a direct attack on the principles of multi-party democracy and citizen participation in governance. He emphasized that such a ruling, delivered at a time when political parties are preparing for the 2027 elections, represents a significant setback for the political landscape.

Secondus argued that the framers of the Nigerian constitution intended for decisions regarding the deregistration of political parties to occur shortly before general elections, not during an electoral cycle. He cautioned that this could disenfranchise voters and create political uncertainty, ultimately undermining healthy competition necessary for democratic growth.
