Secondus Condemns APC's Deregistration of Political Parties

Uche Secondus, the former chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed strong opposition to the recent ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, which led to the deregistration of several political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement made in Abuja on Wednesday, Secondus warned that the actions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicate a desire for a "coronation" rather than a fair election process.

He described the ruling as a dangerous assault on the foundational principles of multi-party democracy and citizen participation in Nigeria. Secondus accused the government of deliberately attempting to destroy opposition parties, which he believes threatens the electoral process and creates political instability.

He emphasized that such actions could disenfranchise voters and narrow the democratic space, particularly during a time of crisis, and warned that the judiciary's involvement in endorsing political exclusion could disrupt the competitive spirit essential for a healthy democracy.
