Jigawa State Gears Up for 2027 Gubernatorial Elections

As the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach, political activities in Jigawa State are gaining momentum. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is consolidating support for incumbent Governor Umar Namadi, who has been endorsed by party elders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A consensus arrangement was reached during a stakeholders' meeting at the government house in Dutse, where Namadi's intention to purchase a nomination form was expressed as a gesture of appreciation for his service. Analysts believe Namadi holds significant advantages due to his incumbency and control over state structures, alongside ongoing infrastructure projects and social intervention schemes.

However, internal divisions within the APC, particularly factions loyal to former Governor Mohammadu Badaru Abubakar, pose challenges to Namadi's re-election bid. Meanwhile, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has united around Mustapha Sule Lamido as its candidate, emphasizing education, healthcare, and economic development in its campaign strategy.
