Tinubu Must Go Calls for Opposition Unity Ahead of 2027

The group Tinubu Must Go (TMG) has reached out to four prominent opposition presidential candidates—Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), and Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM)—urging them to unite behind a single candidate for the 2027 general elections. In letters dated September 22, 2026, and signed by convener Abba Hikima, a human rights lawyer based in Kano, TMG emphasized the need for opposition unity in light of worsening insecurity, inflation, poverty, and youth unemployment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The letters highlighted alarming statistics from SBM Intelligence, reporting 7,825 abductions and 1,142 deaths in 1,411 kidnapping incidents, predominantly in northern Nigeria. TMG plans to hold internal consultations with supporters on September 24, 2026, while stressing that any consensus reached by the candidates should take precedence.

The group aims to contact more opposition candidates to foster a united front against the incumbent.
