Opposition Leaders Work to Unite Against Tinubu in 2027

Salihu Lukman, a former Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum and former APC chieftain, announced initiatives to unite former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, among other opposition leaders, to present a single candidate against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election. In an interview with Arise News, Lukman stated that a framework has been proposed to enable opposition leaders to collaborate and agree on a candidate based on mutually determined criteria.

He emphasized that the choice of candidate should not be dictated by any individual or group but should be a collective decision among the parties. Lukman pointed out that the primary challenge for the opposition is not competition among its leaders but rather the need to unite against the APC and President Tinubu.

He reiterated that the goal is to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative capable of winning the election.
