Opposition Parties Unite for 2027 Elections Challenge

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially begins campaigns for the 2027 general elections, Nigeria's opposition parties are pushing for a mega alliance to present a single presidential candidate against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). Key parties involved include the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Alliance Peoples Movement (APM).

Despite previous challenges in forming a united front, secret meetings have been held in Abuja and Lagos to discuss this coalition. Senator Dino Melaye of the ADC expressed confidence in the ongoing discussions, mentioning that Peter Obi is also part of the talks.

Political scientist Dr. Sam Amadi noted that a united opposition could neutralize the APC's advantages seen in past elections. However, challenges remain regarding candidate selection among the parties.

An anonymous APC officer dismissed the coalition's potential, citing past failures of similar alliances. The political landscape is rapidly evolving as the 2027 elections approach.
