Catholic Bishops Urge Credible Elections for 2027

On September 14, 2026, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) called for the 2027 general election to be free, fair, and credible. The appeal was made by the CBCN President and Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, during the opening session of the conference’s Second Plenary Meeting in Ede, Osun State, which commenced on September 10 and will conclude on September 18.

Ndagoso urged political leaders to respect electoral rules and create an environment conducive to fair competition. He stated that credible elections are achievable with the political will of Nigerians and condemned practices such as vote-buying and political thuggery.

The bishops' call comes amid increasing political activity as candidates prepare for the upcoming election. Ndagoso also welcomed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and other officials, congratulating Adeleke on his re-election and encouraging unity among political actors for the development of the state.
