NCA Chairman Rev. Hayab Calls for Credible Elections in Nigeria

Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the Chairman of the Northern Christian Association (NCA), stated that credible elections, political accountability, and security are essential for Nigeria's progress. Speaking at a media parley with journalists in Kaduna, he highlighted that the country's development is hindered by insecurity, weak democratic accountability, and divisions based on religious, ethnic, and regional lines.

Hayab called for electoral reforms to ensure that Nigerians can freely choose their leaders, arguing that politicians who come to power through questionable means may lack accountability to the electorate. He asserted that credible elections would lead to more responsive elected officials, as they would recognize that voters have the power to remove them if they fail to perform.

Hayab urged Nigerians to prioritize their identity as citizens of one nation over religious, ethnic, and regional affiliations in political decisions. He also criticized the ongoing insecurity in the country, which he believes has compromised the government's ability to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.
