Catholic Bishops Urge Nigerians to Reject Vote-Buying

On Sunday, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria and Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, called on Nigerians to reject vote-buying and selling in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Osogbo, Osun State, during the second plenary meeting of the CBCN, he expressed concerns about the growing disenchantment among citizens regarding potential electoral manipulation.

Ndagoso urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure credible elections, warning that distrust in the electoral process could lead to low voter turnout. He emphasized the need for accessible voters' cards and transparent election processes.

Ndagoso commended INEC for the recent free and fair Osun State off-season election, which he said restored hope for the upcoming elections. He encouraged eligible voters to participate actively and resist vote-buying, citing the positive example set by Osun State voters.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke acknowledged the Catholic Church's contributions to peace and development in Nigeria.
