Court to Rule on Jonathan's 2027 Presidential Eligibility

The case was initiated by the Jideobi Institute, which is seeking a court order to restrain Jonathan from presenting himself as a candidate for any political party in the upcoming elections.

The plaintiffs are requesting the court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan's name as a presidential candidate. The suit aims to determine whether Jonathan remains eligible to seek the office of the presidency again, referencing specific sections of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, particularly sections 1, 2, 3, and 137(3).
