Jonathan Challenges Lawsuit to Bar 2027 Presidential Bid

Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, has filed a challenge against a lawsuit that seeks to prevent him from participating in the 2027 presidential election. The suit was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja by lawyer Johnmari Jideobi, who requested that the court restrain Jonathan from presenting himself as a presidential aspirant.

Jonathan's counsel, Chief Chris Uche, presented a preliminary objection and a counter affidavit, asking the court to dismiss the case on the grounds that it is based on issues already decided by the court. The matter was mentioned before Justice Peter Lifu, who adjourned the hearing until May 11 at 2 PM to consider Jonathan's preliminary objection.

The plaintiff, Ndubuisi Ukpai, is seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting Jonathan's nomination for the presidential election. The case is listed as FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025.
