Stakeholders Launch Security Framework for 2027 Elections

Strategic stakeholders have established a new security framework aimed at enhancing the security of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. At the 8th edition of Blueprint Newspaper’s public lecture held in Abuja, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, called for collective responsibility among Nigerians regarding national security.

He emphasized that security should not solely rely on security agencies and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari, who chaired the event, advocated for a credible and transparent electoral process, asserting that insecurity should not compromise election integrity.

General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, stated that the elections should focus on preserving Nigeria's unity and democratic confidence, asserting that true security encompasses the ability of citizens to vote freely and safely. He noted that government and security agencies alone cannot ensure peaceful elections, highlighting the shared responsibility in maintaining electoral integrity.
