The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders are backing other candidates, including Barakat Odunuga Bakar, to replace Elliot. Tinubu's decision is said to be influenced by Elliot's 12-year tenure, which has been characterized by poor representation and political instability.

Furthermore, Tinubu has expressed no intention of overriding the decisions made by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other key leaders within the party.
