Islamic Scholar Urges Politicians to Prioritize Nigerians

Ibrahim Uthman, the Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, addressed politicians during the Eid Kabir festival, emphasizing the need to prioritize the lives of Nigerians over political ambitions. Speaking shortly after leading a Muslim congregation in two obligatory rakat prayers, Uthman expressed concern over the alarming rate of kidnappings and other social problems in Nigeria.

He urged political office holders and aspirants for the 2027 elections to focus on solving the country's current challenges rather than sacrificing citizens for political gain. Uthman described the level of insecurity as worrisome and appealed to governors, senators, and other political leaders to work towards curbing insecurity.

He reminded politicians that their positions are a responsibility from Allah and that Nigerians should not endure hardship as an excuse for criminal behavior. Uthman's remarks were made during the observance of Eid Kabir, marking the year 1447 in the Hijrah calendar.
