APC Warned Against Non-Kwara North Candidate for 2027

The Kwara State Progress Congress, a political group, has issued a warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the selection of a governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. During a press conference held in Ilorin on Wednesday, spokesperson Isa Kayod Ubandawaki emphasized that the party should not risk fielding a candidate from outside Kwara North, which is seen as a stronghold capable of delivering critical block votes necessary for APC's success.

Ubandawaki's remarks were supported by an analysis of electoral results from 2015, 2019, and 2023, which revealed a consistent voting pattern favoring the APC in Kwara North. The group highlighted that while Kwara Central and Kwara South exhibited fluctuating voting behaviors, Kwara North maintained stable support for the APC, contributing significantly to the party's overall victory margins in previous elections.

The group concluded that for the APC to secure victory in the 2027 general elections, it must strategically present a governorship candidate from Kwara North.
