Christian Elders Urge Tinubu to Abandon 2027 Re-election

The Nigerian Christian Elders Forum (NCEF), led by Chairman Dr. Samuel Danjuma Gani, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to refrain from seeking re-election in 2027.

In a recent communiqué, they expressed concerns that the current administration is leading the country towards increased apprehension rather than hope. The NCEF criticized the President's Muslim-Muslim ticket as "grossly insensitive," especially given the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria.

They urged Tinubu to dedicate the remainder of his term to restructuring the nation and facilitating the development of a new constitution, rather than pursuing a second term. The elders emphasized that the patience of Nigerian citizens should not be taken for granted, as there is a growing demand for change.

They also called on various ethnic nationalities and socio-cultural organizations to mobilize for the adoption of a new constitution before the upcoming general elections in 2027.
