CSMN Calls on Tinubu to Drop 2027 Re-election Bid

The Christian Social Movement of Nigeria (CSMN) has publicly urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon his bid for re-election in 2027, citing significant issues of insecurity and economic hardship under his administration. During a world press conference held via Zoom, CSMN Chairman Sunday Oibe stated that Tinubu has failed in his responsibilities and should focus on securing the nation and strengthening democratic institutions.

Oibe highlighted the ongoing threats from various armed groups, including Boko Haram and ISWAP, which have severely compromised the government's ability to protect its citizens. He emphasized that the continued violence and displacement of Nigerians hinder their ability to participate in the upcoming elections.

CSMN also raised concerns about the socio-economic conditions in Nigeria, referencing World Bank data indicating that 61% of Nigerians live below the national poverty line. The group criticized provisions in the Electoral Act 2026 that limit the grounds for challenging elections, particularly regarding qualification issues, and called for a new constitution to address Nigeria's challenges.
