El-Rufai to Contest for Presidency in 2027 Elections

Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is set to run for the presidency in the 2027 general elections. Makarfi made this disclosure while addressing journalists on Tuesday.

He expressed confidence that El-Rufai would excel in the presidential race, drawing a comparison to the current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Makarfi's remarks come amidst ongoing legal challenges faced by El-Rufai, who is undergoing trial for alleged corrupt practices linked to his tenure as governor.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is involved in this trial, which has raised questions about El-Rufai's political future as he prepares for the presidential campaign.
