NNPP Denies Kwankwaso's Defection Talks with APC Amid 2027 Election Speculations

The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has refuted claims that former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso was in talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding a possible defection ahead of the 2027 elections. Kwankwaso, a 69-year-old politician and former governor of Kano State, is eyeing Nigeria's presidency or vice presidency.

Known for his red cap symbol and political maneuvers, Kwankwaso has a history of party shifts, having been affiliated with four parties. Despite reports of negotiations with the APC, the NNPP spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, dismissed such claims, asserting that Kwankwaso had not engaged in talks to defect.

Additionally, there were reports of former Governor Tinubu distributing rice palliatives in Kano, sparking political discussions. Kwankwaso's political career spans various roles, including serving as a senator and defense minister.

The NNPP's stance contradicts earlier reports of Kwankwaso's alleged discussions with the APC, emphasizing the political dynamics in Nigeria's evolving landscape.
