Prominent Nsukka Politician Ikechukwu Oloto Killed

Ikechukwu Oloto, a prominent politician from Nsukka Local Government Area, was found severely injured in his home on the evening of September 17, 2026. The Police Command, through spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that officers were alerted around 5:45 p.m. regarding a man discovered in a pool of blood at a residence in Odenigbo.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Oloto was pronounced dead by an attending doctor. His body was subsequently moved to a mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.

A manhunt has been initiated for the assailants, but no arrests have been reported. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and while unverified social media claims suggested a knife was involved, Ndukwe indicated that the injuries were consistent with suspected machete wounds.

The police have not identified any suspects or linked the killing to Oloto's political activities. His death has raised concerns about the ongoing violence against politicians in Nigeria.
